Badge Printing – Printer Instructions

These instructions are for third-party devices that can be configured for the Glue Up platform. Printer, browser, and operating system settings may vary. If you need any assistance, please contact support@glueup.com.

Glue Up recommends using the following printers for printing event badges onsite:

Important:

    • If you are using a badge design that is 3.375 x 2.125 inches use Brother QL-720NW.
      • If you buy 2.4 inch (62 mm) paper, the actual badge size will be 4.0 x 2.4 inches (100 x 62 mm).
    • If you are using a badge design that has a 4-inch width use Zebra GX430t.
    • All onsite badge printers print in black and white.

Printing from Google Chrome on a Windows PC will also facilitate the best user experience.

Printer Setup for Brother QL-720NW

The settings below are designed for 2.4-inch badge paper. If you use a different paper size, configure the printer settings as needed. Badges will print in black and white.

 

Pre-event Setup

The following needs to be done once for each computer that will be connected to a printer.

  1. Ensure your badge design in the Glue Up platform is 3.375 x 2.125 inches
  2. Download and install the following driver on your computer: http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadtop.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=lpql720nweus
  3. Connect the Brother QL-720NW printer to your computer
  4. Enter your computer’s printer settings and go to ‘Printing Preferences’ for the Brother QL-720NW device
    • Click the ‘Other Tab’ and select ‘inch’
    • Click the ‘Basic Tab’ and select the following:
      • Paper Size – 2.4”
      • Orientation – Landscape
      • Option – Tick the box ‘Cut Every’ and select ‘1’ for labels
      • Option –Tick the box for ‘Cut at end’
    • Click ‘OK’


Printing Onsite

The following is for the Google Chrome web browser. These settings should be setup and tested prior to event check-in. We recommend you use the most recent version of Google Chrome. If you are using the Mozilla Firefox web browser, please see Additional Setup Instructions for Mozilla Firefox – Windows. Please ensure a wifi network is accessible.

 

  1. Go to ‘Standard Check-in’ inside your event within the Glue Up platform
  2. When you click ‘Print Badge’, a print preview window will appear. The following settings should be selected:
    • Destination – Brother QL-720NW Printer
    • Layout – Landscape
    • Click ‘More Settings’ and select the following:
      • Paper Size – 2.4″
      • Margin – Custom (This must be tested and can be changed as badge designs may vary.)
      • Quality – 300 dpi (This must be tested and can be changed as badge designs may vary.)
      • Scale – 100 (This must be tested and can be changed as badge designs may vary.)
      • Options – Ensure the checkbox for ‘Headers and footers’ is not ticked
  3. Press ‘Print’


Printer Setup for Zebra GX430t

The settings below are designed for badge paper with a 4-inch width. If you use a different paper size, configure the printer settings as needed. Badges will print in black and white.

 

Pre-event Setup

The following needs to be done once for each computer that will be connected to a printer.

 

  1. Ensure your badge design in the Glue Up platform has a 4-inch width
  2. Download and install the following driver on your computer: https://www.zebra.com/us/en/support-downloads/printers/desktop/gx430t.html#downloadlistitem_9aa
  3. Connect the Zebra GX430t printer to your computer
  4. Enter your computer’s printer settings and go to ‘Printing Preferences’ for the Zebra GX430t device
    • Click the ‘Options’ tab, go to the ‘Paper Format’ section, and select ‘inch’ and ‘portrait’
    • Click the ‘Stocks’ tab, and click the ‘New…’ button. You may also click the ‘Change’ button if you have an existing label stock you want to adjust.
    • Complete the information in the ‘Define Stock’ popup accordingly:
      • Name – Use the size of your event badge (e.g. ‘4 x 3’ for a 4 x 3 inch badge)
      • Dimensions – Set the ‘Label Width’ to ‘4’ and ‘Label Height’ to the measurement you used in your badge design. The ‘Label Height’ will be ‘3’, ‘4’, or ‘6’.
      • Unprinted Area – Set each of the fields to ‘0’
      • ClickOK’
    • Click ‘OK’

Printing Onsite

The following is for the Google Chrome web browser. These settings should be setup and tested prior to event check-in. We recommend you use the most recent version of Google Chrome.   1. Go to ‘Standard Check-in’ inside your event within the Glue Up platform
  2. When you click ‘Print Badge’, a print preview window will appear. The following settings should be selected:
    • Destination – Zebra GX430t Printer
    • Layout – Portrait
    • Click ‘More Settings’ and select the following:
      • Paper Size – Select the appropriate label stock size that matches the respective batch you are printing (e.g. ‘4 x 3’ for a 4 x 3 inch badge)
      • Margin – Custom (This must be tested and can be changed as badge designs may vary.)
      • Quality – 300 dpi (This must be tested and can be changed as badge designs may vary.)
      • Scale – 100 (This must be tested and can be changed as badge designs may vary.)
      • Options – Ensure the checkbox for ‘Headers and footers’ is not ticked
  3. Press ‘Print’

 

 

Additional Setup Instructions for Mozilla Firefox – Windows

The following is for the Mozilla Firefox web browser. These settings should be setup and tested prior to event check-in. Please ensure a wifi network is accessible

 

  1. Go to ‘Standard Check-in’ inside your event within the Glue Up platform
  2. Click the three line menu button in the top right and click ‘Print’. In the print preview window click the ‘Page Setup’ button.
    • In the ‘Format & Options’ tab, select the following:
      • Orientation – Select ‘Portrait’ if using the Zebra GX430t printer or ‘Landscape’ if using the Brother QL-720NW
      • Scale – Tick the checkbox for ‘Shrink to fit Page Width’ (This must be tested and can be changed as badge designs may vary.)
    • Click the ‘Margins & Header/Footer’ tab
      • Margins – Set each of the fields to ‘0’
      • Headers & Footers – Set each of the fields to ‘–blank–’
    • Click ‘OK’
  3. Close the print preview window.
  4. When you click ‘Print Badge’, a ‘Print’ settings window will appear. Select your respective printer.
  5. Click the ‘Properties…” button
    • For the Zebra GX430t printer, select the proper label stock.
    • For the Brother QL-720NW printer, select the proper paper size.
  6. Press ‘Print’
