Wireless Connection – Brother QL-720NW

Updated May 2018

These instructions are for a third-party device that can be configured for the Glue Up platform. Printer, browser, and operating system settings may vary. If you need any assistance, please contact  support@glueup.com.

Important:

  • If you are using an event badge design that is 3.375 x 2.125 inches, the Brother QL-720NW printer is your preferred option.
    • If you buy 2.4 inch (62 mm) paper, the actual badge size will be 4.0 x 2.4 inches (100 x 62 mm).
  • If you are using a badge design that has a 4-inch width, use the Zebra GZ430t printer. Instructions for the Zebra GZ430t printer can be found here.
  • The Brother QL-720NW printer and Zebra GZ430t printer both print in black and white.
  • The Brother QL-720NW printer can use a hardwire computer-printer connection or wireless printing to print attendee badges. Wireless printer setup is only necessary if you want to print badges from a mobile device with the Glue Up app.

Checklist for printer setup:

  • Laptop
  • Brother QL-720NW printer
  • USB printer cable
  • A working wifi connection

Before you begin:

  • Please ensure you have a USB printer cable before you start the setup process. You will need a USB printer cable to connect your computer to a printer to establish wireless printing. A wireless connection between the printer and the computer is not an option. Do not plug the printer into your computer at this time.
  • You must know your computer’s wireless network settings before you start the setup process. We also encourage contacting your organization’s system administrator or IT specialist before you begin installation. Make sure your computer is on, you are logged into an account with administrator rights, and your computer is connected to your desired wifi network at your event site.
  • The printer’s wireless settings must be reset if the printer was most recently connected to a different wireless network than the one you want to use for this setup process. Please follow the below instructions to reset your printer:
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Press and hold the Cut button while holding down the On/Off button.
    3. The wifi lamp will blink green and the status lamp will light orange. Continue holding down the buttons and press the Cut button twice while holding down the On/Off button. The wifi lamp will light green and the status lamp will light orange
    4. Let go of the buttons. The printer has now been reset. Do not plug the printer into your computer yet.

  • Ensure the printer is close to a wifi network access point to ensure optimal speed. Walls, large objects, too many users using the wifi network, and interference from other electronic devices may affect the data transfer speed. If you are having trouble with your wifi connection, you can use a USB printer cable to connect your computer to the printer.
