USB Connection – Brother QL-720NW

These instructions are for a third-party device that can be configured for the Glue Up platform. Printer, browser, and operating system settings may vary. If you need any assistance, please contact  support@glueup.com.

Please be sure you follow both the Pre-event Setup and Printing Onsite instructions below to ensure a successful computer-printer connection.

 

Important:

  • If you are using an event badge design that is 3.375 x 2.125 inches, the Brother QL-720NW printer is your preferred option.
    • If you buy 2.4 inch (62 mm) paper, the actual badge size will be 4.0 x 2.4 inches (100 x 62 mm).
  • If you are using a badge design that has a 4-inch width, use the Zebra GZ430t printer. Instructions for the Zebra GZ430t printer can be found here.
  • The Brother QL-720NW printer and Zebra GZ430t printer both print in black and white.
  • The Brother QL-720NW printer can use a hardwire computer-printer connection or wireless printing to print attendee badges.

  • A working wifi connection

 

Setup Instructions for Printing with a USB Printer Cable

When printing from your computer with a USB printer cable, the Google Chrome web browser on a Windows PC will facilitate the best user experience. Setup instructions for Mozilla Firefox can also be found below.

The following instructions are for badge paper with a 2.4-inch width. If you are using a different paper size, configure the printer settings as needed.

 

Before you begin:

The printer’s wireless settings must be reset if the printer was most recently connected to a different wireless network than the one you want to use for this setup process. Please follow the below instructions to reset your printer:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Cut button while holding down the On/Off button.
  3. The wifi lamp will blink green and the status lamp will light orange. Continue holding down the buttons and press the Cut button twice while holding down the On/Off button. The wifi lamp will light green and the status lamp will light orange
  4. Let go of the buttons. The printer has now been reset. Do not plug the printer into your computer yet.

 

Pre-event Setup

This pre-event setup needs to be done once for each computer that will be connected to a printer.

  1. Ensure your badge design in the Glue Up platform is 3.375 x 2.125 inches
  2. Download and install the required printer driver in accordance with your computer’s Windows operating system:  Download Brother QL-720NW Driver

    On the first screen, ensure your operating system (OS) selection matches your computer. Select your OS Version and click the Search button.   3. Connect the Brother QL-720NW printer to your computer
  4. Enter your computer’s printer settings and go to ‘Printing Preferences’ for the Brother QL-720NW device
    • Click the ‘Other Tab’ and select ‘inch’
    • Click the ‘Basic Tab’ and select the following:
      • Paper Size – 2.4”
      • Orientation – Landscape
      • Option – Tick the box ‘Cut Every’ and select ‘1’ for labels
      • Option –Tick the box for ‘Cut at end’
    • Click ‘OK’
  5. When you are ready to print onsite, go to the Google Chrome for Windows – Printing Onsite instructions or Mozilla Firefox for Windows – Printing Onsite instructions

 

Google Chrome for Windows – Printing Onsite

These settings should be set up and tested before check-in begins. 

The following is for the Google Chrome web browser on a Windows PC. We recommend using the most recent version of the browser for onsite printing. If you are using the Mozilla Firefox web browser, please see Mozilla Firefox for Windows – Printing Onsite. Please ensure internet is available to use the Glue Up platform.

If you close your browser after you complete this workflow, you will need to ensure all settings are consistent with those listed below in your new browser session.

 

  1. In the Glue Up platform, go to ‘Standard Check-in’ inside your event
  2. When you click ‘Print Badge’, a print preview window will appear. The following settings should be selected:
    • Destination – Brother QL-720NW Printer
    • Layout – Landscape
    • Click ‘More Settings’ and select the following:
      • Paper Size – 2.4″
      • Margin – Custom (This must be tested and can be changed as badge designs may vary.)
        • If your badge size is 3.375 x 2.125 inches, we recommend adjusting the margins to your specifications.
      • Quality – 300 dpi (This must be tested and can be changed as badge designs may vary.)
      • Scale – 100 (This must be tested and can be changed as badge designs may vary.)
      • Options – Ensure the checkbox for ‘Headers and footers’ is not ticked
  3. Press ‘Print’

 

Mozilla Firefox for Windows – Printing Onsite

These settings should be set up and tested before check-in begins.

The following is for the Mozilla Firefox web browser on a Windows PC. We recommend using the most recent version of the browser for onsite printing. If you are using the Google Chrome web browser, please see Google Chrome for Windows – Printing Onsite. Please ensure internet is available to use the Glue Up platform.

If you close your browser after you complete this workflow, you will need to ensure all settings are consistent with those listed below in your new browser session.

 

  1. In the Glue Up platform, go to ‘Standard Check-in’ inside your event
  2. Click the three-line menu button located in the top right and click ‘Print’. In the print preview window click the ‘Page Setup’ button.
    • In the ‘Format & Options’ tab, select the following:
      • Orientation– Select ‘Landscape’
      • Scale – Tick the checkbox for ‘Shrink to fit Page Width’ (This must be tested and can be changed as badge designs may vary.)
    • Click the ‘Margins & Header/Footer’ tab
      • Margins – Set each of the fields to ‘0’
      • Headers & Footers– Set each of the fields to ‘–blank–’
    • Click ‘OK’
  3. Close the print preview window.
  4. When you click ‘Print Badge’, a ‘Print’ settings window will appear. Select your respective printer.
  5. Click the ‘Properties…” button
    • Select the proper paper size.
  6. Press ‘Print’
